The role
Bridge Bagels is hiring a hands-on Baker & Operations Lead to support Lauren, our GM and co-founder. Baking is at the heart of the role — dough prep, boiling, and baking consistent, high-quality bagels — alongside day-to-day ops support as we scale. You'll work from our home kitchen now and help us build out into a proper production facility and shop. Creative input on new bagel flavours, schmears, and menu ideas is welcome, with Lauren's sign-off. Flexibility matters: you'll also step in on front-of-house, shift cover, and general business support when needed.
What you'll do
- Execute production: dough preparation, boiling, and baking to deliver consistent, high-quality bagels.
- Help develop and test new bagel flavours, schmears, and menu ideas with Lauren.
- Monitor product quality, batch yields, par levels, and waste.
- Uphold food-hygiene standards — HACCP, allergen management, Safer Food Better Business (SFBB), and a 5-star hygiene rating.
- Manage kitchen stock levels, ingredient sourcing, and raw inventory.
- Partner with Lauren on day-to-day service and operational flow.
- Lead shift operations, staff coordination, and customer service when Lauren is away.
- Cover front-of-house and help train others to keep service standards high.
- Support marketing ideas, promos, and a welcoming community atmosphere.
- Help stand up production as we move from home kitchen to a dedicated facility and shop.
What you bring
- Strong baking, kitchen production, or commercial food-prep experience (bagel or bread baking highly desirable).
- Creative culinary mindset and genuine interest in developing new recipes and flavour combinations.
- Must be a morning person — this role includes early starts.
- Comfortable with flexible part-time hours, including early mornings and weekends as needed.
- Shift-lead or supervisory experience in food retail or hospitality is an asset.
- Practical working knowledge of Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) guidelines.
- Valid Level 2 (or higher) Food Hygiene certificate, or willingness to obtain before start.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car (for markets, multi-site runs, and ops support).
- Attention to detail, reliability, physical stamina, and a wear-multiple-hats startup mindset.
- Warm customer-service attitude; prior serving experience is a plus.
- Right to work in the UK.
On your feet for long stretches; heat and steam; lifting (e.g. flour sacks up to ~20kg).
